| Firewall/Proxy Considerations |
If you connect directly to the internet then your web site, your live broadcasts and surveillance monitor can be accessed remotely from the world wide web because you have a public IP address.
If you connect to the internet through a firewall/proxy server then your web site, your live broadcasts and surveillance monitor can be accessed remotely only from your local area network because you have a private IP address, to make them public you'll need configuration done by your network administrator so that he/she maps ports from your PC directly to the internet.
The other consideration that is important for networking is about the type of your IP address when you connect directly to the internet.
Your IP address can either be fixed or dynamic. Fixed IPs are ideal because they don't change so whoever tries to connect to your web site today will also be able to do it tomorrow on the same address. Dynamic IPs however change usually every time you turn on your computer and that is also OK. The problem really lies when your IP address is dynamic and changes several times during the day. In this case you can not publish your web site or do any kind of remote access because by the time someone tries to access your link odds are that your IP address has already changed.
