You can record audio and video from any existing capture profile including sound, web cam, TV tuner, the screen or a window or region of the screen.
So, first you need to have a capture profile selected and active. Learn about 'Capture Profiles'.
Audio sources and video sources can be recorded uncompressed or using compression. Learn how to use compression and create AVI, WMV, WAV, WMA and MP3 files. You can change compression and other settings opening the 'Record Settings' dialog.

About videos recorded from the screen: Videos inside web browsers and videos inside media players are actually recorded directly from the screen. If you are recording the 'Desktop' whether it's the full desktop or a window inside a browser like a YouTube video for example or a video inside Windows Media Player you can change the window, region, and frame rate very rapidly by clicking on the 'Window/Region/Frame-Rate' button on the Main Toolbar.
About videos recorded from the TV tuner and external devices: Video capture boards such as TV tuner capture boards generally have on their back either an S-Video entry, or a Composite-Video entry, or both. Learn more about connecting external video devices.
About videos recorded from the web cam: There is no special consideration about recording video from the web cam. Simply select a capture profile with the web cam as video source and start recording.
